A 17-year-old Hindu minor girl, Sristi Saha, was forcibly abducted in broad daylight on 6 November 2025, triggering shockwaves across the minority Hindu community in Bakerganj Upazila. Despite the filing of a formal case and multiple appeals from the victim’s family, law enforcement agencies have reportedly failed to rescue the girl or arrest any suspect even after a full week, raising serious concerns over minority security and police inaction.
The Incident
According to the case statement, Sristi Saha, daughter of Amal Saha, a well-known grocery shop owner at Kaliganj Bazar, was on her way to college accompanied by her mother. At around mid-morning, two men—identified in the complaint as Md. San Majhi and his associate—allegedly intercepted them. Witnesses claim the men forcibly grabbed the girl and pushed her onto a motorcycle while her mother helplessly tried to resist.
Locals report that the assailants fled the scene within seconds, leaving the victim’s mother screaming for help.
Family Living in Fear
The Saha family says they are living in constant fear and emotional turmoil.
Sristi’s mother, who saw her daughter taken away in front of her eyes, has reportedly been traumatized. The father, Amal Saha, known in the community for running one of the largest grocery shops in the market, has been pleading for immediate action from authorities.
“We filed the case right away, but my daughter has not been found. Not a single accused has been arrested,” the distressed father said in a statement.
One Week Without Action
It has now been over seven days since the abduction, yet the local police have not managed to rescue the victim or make any arrests.
Local residents allege that the investigation is moving at an unusually slow pace. Members of the minority community fear that delays like this may encourage criminals and further endanger vulnerable families.
Minority rights advocates have strongly criticized the negligence, saying that the failure to take swift action in such cases reflects a disturbing pattern of indifference toward crimes against minorities.
Deep Concern Among Local Hindus
The incident has triggered an atmosphere of fear, anger, and insecurity among Hindus living in the Upazila. Community leaders warn that repeated incidents of abduction, harassment, and threats—combined with slow or no response from law enforcement—are worsening the sense of vulnerability.
“This is not just one family’s pain. The entire minority community is terrified,” a local resident said. “If a girl can be abducted in front of her mother and still not be found in a week, what protection do we have?”
Calls for Immediate Intervention
Residents and rights activists are now urging the police administration, the district authorities, and the national government to take the matter seriously and act immediately.
They demand:
The urgent rescue of Sristi Saha
The immediate arrest of all individuals involved
Assurance of safety for the Saha family and the local Hindu community
A fair, transparent, and speedy investigation
Failure to act promptly, activists warn, may lead to heightened fear and a further erosion of trust in law enforcement among minority groups in Bangladesh.
Awaiting Official Response
As of now, the police have not released a detailed statement regarding the investigation’s progress. The family and community remain anxiously hopeful for a breakthrough before more time passes.
