Bangladesh: The Police arrested 5 Islamists accused in the attack in Hindu village of Rangpur

Five Islamists have been arrested in a joint operation over their involvement in an attack on a Hindu neighbourhood in Rangpur district. 

According to a press release by the Rangpur district Police, unidentified persons vandalized, looted and attacked the Hindu neighbourhood of Aldadpur village under Betgari Union of Gangachara Upazila over a Facebook post. 

In connection with the incident, a Hindu resident of the village named Rabindranath Roy(55) filed a complaint in the Gangachara Model Police on 29th of July. In the complaint, it is mentioned that around 1000-1200 persons attacked the Hindu neighbourhood and vandalized and looted the houses of the Hindu minorities. 

Based on the complaint, the police started a case against the unidentified accused under Sections of 149/447/332/333/353/379/380/427/34 of the Bangladesh Penal Code. 

On the night of 27th of July, thousands of armed Islamists attacked the Hindu neighbourhood of Aldadpur village. Hindu houses were vandalized and looted. Hindu temples were also not spared. Hindu women were beaten and tortured. Many Hindu families have already left the area. To bring confidence and to provide security among the Hindu minorities, a police camp has already been set up in the Hindu neighbourhood. Meanwhile, the police and the Army have been searching to identify and nab the accused Islamists.
