Bangladesh: Harassed by a Muslim youth and the Police, Hindu girl died by suicide

Amid the ogoing anti-Hindu violence throughout the Bangladesh, a Hindu girl died by suicide after the harassment by a Muslim youth and the Police. The incident has been reported from the Baufal Upazila of the Potuakhali district of Bangladesh.

The deceased girl has been identified as Iti Das. She was a student of Barishal BM College. 

As per the reports, on the morning of 3rd of February, Monday, she was in a restaurant with her boyfriend. A local Muslim youth named Hriday Rayhan, who had been allegedly stalking her for months, reached there and humiliated her in front of others. Then, Hriday Rayhan informed her parents. But, Iti’s father informed the local police. A team of the Police from the Baufal Police Station, led by SI Shahin reached the restaurant and detained Iti Das and her boyfriend. 

The Police kept her and her boyfriend seated in the station for hours. Later, they were released. Iti went to her home.

That night, her parents saw that their daughter was hanging in her room. Subsequently, the Police were informed. They recovered the body and sent it for postmortem. Officer of Baufal Police Station said,”We have started an investigation and we’ll look into every aspect.”

Local Hindus said that Hriday Rayhan humiliated and shamed her in front of others. He also informed her parents to humiliate her. So, she did suicide. They demanded arrest and punishment for the accused Muslim youth Hriday Rayhan.
