Bangladesh: employer Hanifur Rahman accused of rape and murder of Hindu nurse

A Hindu nurse has been murdered allegedly by her Muslim employer after being raped. The incident was reported on Monday, July 11, from Bhairab Upazila in Bangladesh’s Kishoreganj district. The deceased has been identified as Rima Pramanik, daughter of Sentu Pramanik, and was a resident of Pirizkandi village under Raipura Upazila in the Narsingdi district.

The police recovered the body of the 19-year-old victim from the United Hospital and Orthopedics Center in Bhairab at around 10 AM on Monday. Rima was employed as a nurse in this hospital. Police have also arrested Rima’s Muslim employer Hanifur Rahman, in connection with the murder. Rahman is the Managing Director of the hospital.

According to local sources and police, Rima has worked as a nurse in the United Hospital and Orthopedics Center for the past two years. On July 7, she took leave from her duty and visited her hometown. Police and media sources also report that on July 9, Rima returned to the hospital after receiving a call from the hospital authorities. As per available information, her dead body was found lying in a hospital bed. Eventually, the police were called in; they visited the spot and recovered the body.

One social media platform called ‘Mandir TV’ reported, “Rima got a job in police and tendered her resignation to the nursing home authority to join her new assignment. But, the nursing home authority called her for some reason, and ultimately the dead body of Rima was recovered from United Hospital and Orthopedics Center in Bhairab”.

Local sources also assert that Nursing Home Managing Director Hanifur Rahman was known to sexually exploit Hindu nurses after giving these girls employment in his nursing home. Golam Mostafa, the officer-in-charge at the Bhairab Police Station, stated that after recovering the body, they sent it to the Kishoreganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy. He also assured legal actions against the guilty in this regard. However, in the past 6-7 years, we have witnessed that crimes against the Hindus are being greatly overlooked. The miscreants and perpetrators are seldom brought to justice.

The life of the religious minorities in Islamic Bangladesh has turned into an everyday struggle, and the radical insurgence of Islamist fanatics is rising daily. The Hindus of Bangladesh have no rights or securities. With the increasing influence of Sharia on the judiciary and governing bodies in Bangladesh, a Hindu citizen has been relegated to a “dirty Kaffir”. Political parties also work as Sharia agents, making life unbearable for the Hindus.

  1. The Hidu minorities continue to fall prey to the radical Islamists in a well-orchestrated fashion in Islamic State of Bangladesh. They are increasingly deprived of basic Human Rights, and denied opportunities to stand on their own feet. Denied justice they live under dire psychosis of death, rape, violence, and genocide. The whole mechanism is well-planned and carried out at all levels. The Hindus live in B’Desh under dire apathy from police , administration, local MLAs and Ministers. Be sure, that Bangladesh will have zero Hindu population within a decade. Madam Hasina is a miserable failure to safeguard the Hindu minorities in her regime.
