8-year-old Kavita Bheel gang-raped, eyes gouged: Sindh, Pakistan

In a shocking incident from Dec 2021 that went virtually unnoticed, an 8-year-old Hindu girl Kavita was brutally gang raped in Umarkot, Sindh province of Pakistan. The rapists scratched her entire face and gouged her eyes. She was taken to hospital, still bleeding and in critical condition.

Kavita, daughter of Maru Bheel, was gang raped & tortured so severely that she was almost dead when the accused left her. She was admitted in Umarkot government hospital and doctors confirmed the rape.

A woman who was accompanying the minor when she was taken to hospital said, “The girl’s bleeding was just not stopping, we had to change her dress thrice. She was raped, her entire face was scratched and even her eyes were gouged. What can a poor victim do, there is no justice for them. This is not a one-off incident. Such crimes happen everyday, there have been thousands of such crimes…but the government and state don’t take any action. These poor people are helpless.”

Update/Correction

It has emerged that this incident is from Dec, 2021, and not recent as the article earlier implied. The error is regretted. The sheer volume of such crimes from Pakistan is such that many of them never get reported, so they hardly register in public consciousness.
