Mangaluru auto blast is an act of terror, says police

Two persons, including the driver of an autorickshaw, sustained burns, after a moving autorickshaw caught fire near Kankanady Town police station limits on Saturday evening.

DGP Karnataka today confirmed from his official twitter handle that it was an act of terrror, with intention to cause serious damage.

Yesterday, police had said they suspect it was a low-intensity blast and that the FSL team is inspecting the case. The blast occurred near Nagori after a passenger boarded the rickshaw. Police chief N Sasikumar said the reason behind the fire was a bag being carried by the passenger in the autorickshaw. Remains of a pressure cooker, and objects resembling a gas stove burner, were found in the autorickshaw.

The names of the passenger and the driver have not been released as yet.

This could well be another lucky escape after the Coimbatore terror strike outside a temple on eve of Deepavali, where IS-linked terrorist Jameesha Mubeen’s car bomb exploded prematurely killing only him. The TN police and government has been accused of trying to cover up that attack, which is now being probed by NIA.

  1. Vehicle blasts are a worrying sign. In all Muslim violence hit countries, they are seen in large numbers. Who is bringing all these designs into India?
