“Row erupts over ‘Halal lifestyle township’ project near Mumbai”, India Today, September 4, 2025:

“A real estate project in Neral, around 100 km from Mumbai, has triggered a political storm after its advertisement went viral on social media. The promotional video for the so-called “Halal Lifestyle Township” has drawn sharp reactions, with allegations that the project is being marketed as a residential colony for a particular community.

The video, shared by National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) chairperson Priyank Kanoongo, shows a woman in a hijab describing the township as a place offering “authentic community living” with like-minded families, children growing “safely in a Halal environment,” and amenities such as prayer spaces and community gatherings within walking distance.

Kanoongo posted the clip on social media, calling it “Nation within the Nation” and said the Maharashtra government has been issued a notice……”
