Questioning the Armed Forces: An Unfortunate Trend

In a nation like India, where the armed forces are revered as symbols of honor, valor, and national pride, it is almost unthinkable that their integrity and operational efficiency would come under question. Our military has consistently proven its mettle — not only on the battlefield but also during natural disasters, peacekeeping missions, and in the unrelenting task of defending our borders. Against this backdrop, recent attempts by certain opposition parties to raise doubts about the army’s functioning are not only regrettable but also deeply condemnable.

This thoughtless and unnecessary controversy strikes at the very heart of national sentiment. Worse still, it risks tarnishing the country’s image on the international stage. While criticism and debate are essential pillars of a functioning democracy, exploiting matters of national security and the sacrifices of our soldiers for political mileage is wholly inappropriate.Such rhetoric not only demoralizes the armed forces but also instills confusion and insecurity among the public. It is critical to remember that the military is not the preserve of any single government; it belongs to the entire nation. Therefore, any depreciating directed at it is effectively an insult to the collective sentiment of the Indian people.

What the moment demands is unity — rising above political divisions, especially on issues as sensitive and sacrosanct as national defense. A mature democracy is measured not only by the freedom it allows for dissent, but by the responsibility with which it handles matters of national interest.

By choosing to politicize military matters, the opposition has inadvertently undermined its own credibility along with that of the nation. This is a time for introspection. It must be understood that using national security as a political tool is not just unjustified — it is an injustice to the very emotions and sacrifices of the people who protect us.

Let us collectively reaffirm our respect for the forces and ensure that political ambitions never override the interests of national security.
