“On the bustling Amritsar–Jalandhar Grand Trunk (GT) Road at Manawala village stands an institution that quietly continues a legacy of compassion and service. The Manawala branch of the All India Pingalwara Charitable Society has become a lifeline for hundreds of destitute, elderly and differently-abled individuals who have nowhere else to go.
Established on the principles laid down by renowned humanitarian Bhagat Puran Singh, Pingalwara has long been associated with caring for the abandoned and vulnerable. Singh devoted his life to serving the sick, disabled and neglected members of society, and his philosophy of unconditional service continues to guide the organisation’s work today.
The Manawala facility, located on the outskirts of Amritsar, is among the largest centres operated by the society. It provides residential care for people who have been left without family support, including senior citizens, individuals with mental health challenges and those with physical disabilities.
