BJP has pulled out of its alliance with PDP in Jammu & Kashmir today, following which CM Mehbooba Mufti submitted her resignation. The state now looks headed for President’s Rule.
“It has become untenable for the BJP to continue its alliance government in Jammu and Kashmir, hence we are withdrawing” BJP general secretary Ram Madhav said at a press conference this afternoon.
“Keeping in mind larger interest of India’s security and integrity, the fact is that J&K is an integral part of India. In order to bring control over the situation prevailing in the state, we have decided that the reigns of power in the state be handed over to the governor,” he stated.
Now that BJP’s forced alliance with a party like PDP that has a track record of being pro-separatist has ended, here are four things the Union Government should seriously consider once President’s Rule is invoked in J&K –
1.) Full crackdown on separatists of all hues, especially the double-crossing Hurriyat leadership which is nothing but a front for Pakistan’s ISI. The NIA investigation into illegal funding networks of anti-nationals and terror apologists should be taken to its logical conclusion without delay.
2.) CBI investigation should be ordered into the Kathua case – the shoddy J&K crime branch chargesheet which is full of gaping holes and contradiction has left the people of Jammu feeling victimised and hard done by.
3.) Rohingya settlements in Jammu should be shutdown immediately. There can be no justification for allowing illegal immigrants to settle in a sensitive border state where even citizens from outside the state are not allowed to settle due to Article 370.
4.) Jammu and Ladakh should be given a different administrative status – whether UT (Union Territory), or like Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) – to free the people of those regions from the Kashmir valley-centric focus which has left these two regions under-developed and ignored.
