Viral video shows Dalits being assaulted for celebrating BJP win in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan

A group of Dalits celebrating BJP’s win in the 2019 Lok Sabha election was attacked by local Muslims in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district, reports Patrika. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

The incident occurred in Nachna tehsil of Jaisalmer district. As per the complaint lodged by Rohidewala village resident Phoolaram Bheel, he and a group of friends were going by vehicle towards Bharewala on 23rd May while celebrating BJP’s win in the election, when Rafik Khan, Bashir Khan and others stopped their vehicle, hurled casteist abuses and assaulted them.

In a counter complaint, Rafik Khan claimed that the dispute arose because Phoolaram and others ‘disturbed’ him by bursting crackers just as he was breaking his Roza – daily fast during Muslim holy month of Ramzan, when Muslims are expected to practise self-introspection, self-restraint, penance and prayers.

Jaisalmer district borders Pakistan, and Muslims constitute 25% of the population here. The sensitive Pokhran nuclear testing range is located in the district.

Dalit Hindu communities such as Bheel, Mehgwal, Kohli etc can be found even in Pakistan’s Sindh province, just across the border. In Pakistan, these Dalit Hindus face severe discrimination from the Muslim majority & live in constant fear of their daughters being abducted, forcefully converted and ‘married’ to Muslim men.

Last month, a case was lodged under SC/ST Act and POCSO Act against one Manzoor Khan from Jaisalmer district for enticing a minor Hindu girl to elope with him.

Will the loud advocates of Dalit-Muslim unity like Asaduddin Owaisi, Prakash Ambedkar, Mayawati, Bhim Army etc speak up on these happenings in Jaisalmer? Will the fake liberals scare-mongering that ‘Muslims are fearful under Modi 2.0’ care to offer a comment?
