“TN stands with its head held high”- ally congratulates DMK for removing Jai Hind from governor’s address

After stoking separatism through its Bharat is a ‘Union of States’ campaign, DMK has now turned against Jai Hind as well. DMK ally KonguNadu Desiya Makkal Katchi’s(KDMK) chief said in the assembly that Tamil Nadu now stands with its head held high as Jai Hind has been removed from the governor’s address.

After the new DMK government was sworn in on May 7, the assembly session began with the governor’s address on. In the address, the slogan ‘Jai Hind’ was missing at the end unlike the addresses of previous years. During the session when MLAs were given a chance to speak, Tiruchengode MLA and KDMK chief, Easwaran said that “I realised that Tamil Nadu stands with its head held high now after listening to the governor’s address. Unlike the Governor’s address last year, Jai Hind was not said by the Governor while concluding his address this year“.

Governor’s address is usually prepared by the government and Easwaran boasted the removal of Jai Hind as an achievement of the DMK government. After widespread outrage he told the media that his comments were being misunderstood. He said that he meant to point out the removal of a Hindi word as DMK government has assured that it will continue the two language policy.

However, coupled with the separatist agenda peddled through the ‘Union of States’ campaign, the opposition to Jai Hind has furthered the secessionist and seditious discourse in social media. Not surprisingly even this was linked to Brahmanism and Dravidianists claimed that only Brahmins say Jai Hind because that is their ticket to live as parasites whether in BJP or Congress. Curiously none of the BJP or a supposedly pro nationalist ADMK MLAs objected to Easwaran’s comments on the floor but are now trying to get it removed from the assembly records. However TN Congress coming out of its slumber has tweeted, “Jai Hind (in Tamil) #ProudToSayJaiHind ” with a video clip of Indra Gandhi chanting Jai Hind.
