Recall the 2025 silencing of Deepa Karthik[6], an elected Hindu school board vice president in South Brunswick, New Jersey, which has brought renewed attention to the sensitivities surrounding halal practices. For simply expressing on her private Facebook account that, as a Hindu, she objects to halal products due to concerns over “contamination” arising from the slaughter method, Karthik faced coordinated backlash, institutional sanctions, committee removals, and professional repercussions…….”
