Temple vandalised, Hindus attacked in Kolkata polling booth locality that had voted for BJP

Hindus continue to suffer the aftermath of voting for BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) more than a month after the Bengal Assembly elections were declared. The Bengal post-poll violence unleashed by TMC (Trinamool Congress) on Hindus, following the declaration of results on 2 May, has been one of the worst pogroms in recent times in which even women and children haven’t been spared.

The violence has continued unabated to date and reports have now emerged of BJP votes being brutally assaulted in booth No. 67’s locality under Bongaon Dakshin AC where BJP won. As per available information, BJP drew around 60% of the total votes polled here while TMC got about 36% votes.

In yet another incident at Tiljala, a Shani Kali Mandir was attacked in broad daylight on 8 June by Islamists who vandalized the temple and destroyed the murtis. The police, however, instead of acting against the perpetrators are alleged to have been mute spectators.

A similar call for help was made by Singha Bahini President Devdutta Maji who tweeted saying that Hindus in Hazarigali were surrounded by Islamists and also alleged that the police were not just refusing to act against the attackers but also trying to frame Hindu youths.

In another tweet, Maji said that Hindus of Lohapool area near Gurdwara of ParkCircus & HazariGali ShivTala of Tiljala feared more attacks as a mob comprising of thousands of jihadi elements was supposedly waiting on the other side of the Rail Line in preparation of a further attack. The video shared by Maji shows West Bengal police arresting Hindu woman Priya Das.

Bengal leader of the opposition (LoP) Suvendu Adhikari also took to Twitter to highlight the plight of Hindu BJP voters in the area. Adhikari pointed out that besides temples being vandalized and Hindus being assaulted, the TMC goons also attacked journalists who were reporting the incidents.

Adhikari’s tweet read “Journalist Sanjeeb Basu was following up on a reliable lead that Hindus were being targeted today at Tiljala area in Kolkata. The atrocities were not only limited to people and properties, even Hindu Temples were attacked. While covering the news journalist Sanjeeb Basu was brutally attacked. I strongly condemn this incident which is an onslaught on people for exercising their democratic rights and attacks free journalistic liberties.”

The violence unleashed by TMC goons appears to be political vengeance on BJP supporters for simply voting for a party of their choice.
