PM Modi’s Nal Se Jal scheme adds 4 crore rural households in just one & half years

PM Modi’s Har Ghar Nal Se Jal scheme that was launched in 2019 has managed to provide tap water connections to around 4 crore rural households. In just a year and half years, the scheme has achieved 20% of its target. The objective of the scheme is to ensure every rural household has a functional household tap connection (FHTC) by 2024.

As per the data of the Ministry of Jal Shakti (MJS), Goa, Telangana and Andaman & Nicobar Islands have already succeeded in FHTC to every rural household. The scheme was started to make sure that citizens could be provided water supply connectivity.

As of date, 37% of the 19.19 crore rural households, that is 7.17 crore rural households have tap water connections. Before PM launched the scheme in August 2019, only 3.23 crore households had functional household tap water connections. Today there are 55 districts, 43,404 panchayats, and 84,565 villages with tap water connections in every house.

Uttar Pradesh (UP) which has 2.63 crore rural households has tap water connections in only 10% of the total rural households. West Bengal is the worst performing state as only 8.75% of households out of a total of 1.63 crores have been provided tap water connections. The highest proportions of households having tap water supply across Bharat is found in the states of Bihar and Maharashtra where 68.69% 1.96 crore households and 63.36% of 1.42 crore households respectively have been given tap water connectivity.
