NCP (Nationalist Congress Party) hooligans thrashed Thane Municipal Corporation’s (TMC) Encroachment Department Deputy Commissioner Mahesh Aher within the TMC premises. They are supporters of Hinduphobic NCP leader Jitendra Awhad who is famous for minority appeasement, threatening common citizens and hooliganism against those who oppose him. His supporters have taken a leaf from his book and attacked the Deputy Commissioner for allegedly threatening Awhad’s family.
As per available information, a couple of days ago Awhad tweeted alleging that Aher had underworld connections. Following this, an unverified audio clip went viral on social media where Awhad’s family was issued death threats. The voice threatening to kill Awhad’s family, with the help of gangster Babaji aka Subashsingh Thakur who is currently in Tihar jail, was said to be that of Aher. NCP alleged that a shooter has been stationed with Thakur’s aid to kill Awhad’s family.
Although there was no confirmation of its authenticity, NCP goons landed at the TMC office on Wednesday (February 15) evening as Aher was leaving for home. Aher was stopped and thrashed by the hooligans outside the TMC main gate. The assault took place in front of security officials raising questions regarding the security arrangements of TMC.
One of the security guards rushed to rescue Aher but the NCP goons continued their hooliganism. Subsequently, senior TMC officials and Naupada police rescued Aher and took him to the Thane Municipal hospital for first aid.
7 persons including Awhad have been booked by the Naupada police under IPC (Indian Penal Code) Sections 353 (assault or criminal force), 307 (attempt to murder), 332 (Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 506(2)(criminal intimidation), 143 (unlawful assembly), 148 (rioting, armed with a deadly weapon), 149 (member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in the prosecution of common object), and 120B (criminal conspiracy).
Awhad and other NCP hooligans regularly indulge in goondaism to intimidate anyone they do not agree with. In November last year, Awhad and his goons stopped the screening of the movie Har Har Mahadev and manhandled the public. Similarly, last May NCP hooligans bashed up BJP spokesperson Vinayak Ambekar for allegedly putting up a Facebook post that criticized Pawar. The list of NCP hooliganism and fascism is never-ending.
