“In a dramatic and distressing turn of events, four individuals, including two women, attempted self-immolation outside the Tirunelveli District Collector’s Office on 29 November 2024, in protest over an ongoing property dispute with a DMK functionary.
The group, led by Nainar Mohammed from Thazhayuthu, arrived at the Collector’s office to submit a petition. However, as they stood outside the office, they suddenly pulled out a bottle of kerosene, poured it over themselves, and attempted to set themselves on fire.
In response, police officers stationed for security quickly intervened, confiscating the kerosene and matches from the individuals and dousing them with water. They were subsequently taken in for questioning……”
