The Indic Collective Trust (ICT) is a Chennai-based registered trust of activists, intellectuals and civil liberties advocates who are committed to an Indic Renaissance. The broad objective of the ICT is to advocate, through Constitutional and democratic means, the right of the Indic way of life to exist and thrive.
Recently the Indic Collective Trust along with KBSV Bharat filed a PIL in Kerala High Court, regarding the mismanagement of temple properties by the Kerala government and dereliction of the statutory duties by the Devaswom boards to protect the interest of the Temples, including its assets and sources of revenue.
By passing different legislatures, the Kerala government took over lakhs of acres of land belonging to the temple with the promise of annual compensation. But it must be noted that currently a pittance is being paid by the government to the temples as compensation and for several acres of land even this small amount is not being paid.
The litigation filed by Indic Collective and KBSV Bharat in Kerala High Court is asking for the revision of the compensation in accordance with the market rates for it must be noted that in its absence the temples in Kerala have been pushed to the state of poverty. Further, the litigation also asks for penal interest to be paid by the government for not paying proper compensation over the past few decades which has also resulted in stopping of several welfare schemes which were being carried on by the temples.
We discussed the petition and related issues with Sri G Ravilochanan, one of the trustees of Indic Collective –
