Is the government’s decision to lift ban on government employees joining RSS a sign that the BJP is returning to its core Hindutva issues?

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has always been a prime target of the left-liberal cabal. The global anti-Hindu ecosystem that demonizes Hindutva has labeled RSS as a “fascist” and “paramilitary” organization. It’s been associated with what the left-liberal cabal calls “Hindutva terrorism”. The demonization of RSS has been one of the biggest propaganda projects of the anti-Hindu ecosystem. Unfortunately, it’s been successful to a large extent; it has managed to create a fear psychosis in the minds of a huge chunk of the English educated in Bharat that RSS is inherently evil, and dangerous, and spreads hatred and intolerance in the society.

Such is the level of demonization of the RSS by the left-liberal media and think tank ecosystem that a couple of years back, when former supermodel Milind Soman mentioned in one of his interviews that he has fond memories of going to the local RSS shakha in Mumbai as a child, the whole left-liberal cabal went in an overdrive mode running a troll campaign against him.

He also said that his father had been a part of the RSS as a “proud Hindu”. Milind Soman shared his experiences of going to the shakha regularly and said the whole thing felt like being a part of the “desi scouts”.  Soman added that the RSS shakhas in those days were all about getting youngsters to lead a disciplined life with a focus on imparting the right values and thinking along with physical fitness.

He also added that he was baffled by the recent media reports attributing communal and subversive propaganda to the RSS and that his experience of being a shakha regularly was entirely different and positive. The moment Soman went public with this, the left-liberal cabal didn’t spare him either! Liberals on social media started brutally trailing him by calling him a Sanghi.

A famous Bharatiya supermodel talking fondly about his RSS experience and also questioning the propaganda against Sangh was obviously too much for the left-liberal cabal to handle! It was an embarrassing moment for them which they tried to cover up by trolling and shaming Soman online.

The Western media coverage of political issues concerning Bharat routinely calls the BJP government “right-wing Hindutva fascist” and attacks the RSS left, right, and centre. The BJP’s association with the RSS is portrayed as something dangerous for the country’s secularism, rights of minorities, etc. It is in this context that one needs to view the recent order issued by the Modi government lifting the 58-year-old ban on government servants participating in RSS activities. The ban should have obviously been lifted a lot earlier, but better late than never. It’s indeed a bold and courageous move by the NDA government that has a lot of symbolic significance, especially at a time when the Modi government is functioning under a coalition.

One of the narratives set against the BJP post-2024 Lok Sabha election results was that since the party couldn’t secure a clear majority on its own, it would move away from its Hindutva agenda. BJP being dependent on coalition allies like Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu gave rise to speculations that the new Modi government is going be way more subdued, and perhaps abandon its position on core issues.

It’s been less than two months since the new government has been in power. Yet, one can safely say that the Modi government is undoing that narrative slowly but firmly. First, it made a powerful move by introducing a resolution condemning the imposition of the Emergency by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The resolution was passed in the Lok Sabha and was supported by Congress’s allies like the DMK, SP, and TMC, much to its embarrassment. Then, came the Modi government’s decision to earmark the day Emergency was imposed as Samvidhan Hatya Divas (Murder of Constitution Day). Now, this latest decision to remove a ban regarding RSS which is more than 50 years old.

It’s indeed a welcome development, one that tells us that the BJP could indeed reclaim the Hindutva narrative that it seemed to have lost its grip over in the recent past. There have been many speculations about possible faultlines between the BJP and the Sangh recently. The government order ending the ban on government employees joining RSS puts a stop to those rumour mills, at least for the time being.

It’s indeed shocking that the participation of government employees in RSS activities was banned by the then Indira Gandhi government which placed the Sangh in the category of a radical outfit like Jamaat-e-Islami, for which a similar ban was introduced.

Even as the opposition is busy attacking the BJP government over the removal of the 58-year-old ban, the RSS has welcomed the move, expressing publicly that the removal of the ban finally undoes a draconian measure that amounted to a vicious political targeting of the Sangh during Congress rule.

“The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has been continuously engaged in the reconstruction of the nation and the service of society for the past 99 years. Due to the RSS’s contributions in times of national security, unity-integrity, and natural disasters, the various types of leadership in the country have, from time to time, praised the role of the RSS. Due to their political self-interests, the then-government unjustly prohibited government employees from participating in the activities of a constrictive organization like the RSS. The recent decision of the Government is appropriate and will strengthen the democratic system of Bharat”, this post written by Sunil Ambedkar, Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh RSS was shared via the organization’s X handle.

The cultural, literary, and academic ecosystem of Bharat has been completely hijacked by the left-liberal lobby. It isn’t a coincidence that anti-national ideologies are often normalized and even glorified in the name of humanities, social sciences, and liberal arts education in Bharat’s elite universities. First, it was the JNU that was notorious for embedding the anti-Bharat and anti-Hindu narrative within the academia. It’s only recently that a cleanup process has been initiated and universities like JNU now find a balanced representation of academics across different ideological leanings, thus creating a dent in the hegemony of the “communist intellectual” brigade.

But this is just the beginning. A lot needs to be done in this direction to get the academic ecosystem out of the stranglehold of the left-liberal cabal. For this to happen, it’s important that the RSS gets to play a more active role in cultural, literary, and academic activities across Bharat. Therefore, the government removing the ban on government employees joining the RSS will go a long way towards altering the perception of educated Bharatiyas regarding the Sangh.

This decision by the Modi government also gives hope to the BJP’s core voter base that it will make a strong comeback to its Hindutva agenda, and distance itself from the politics of minority appeasement that have defined many of its actions in the recent past.

As Pradeep Singh, senior journalist and Editor, Aapka Akhbar points out rather aptly in one of his YouTube videos that the BJP has only done well for itself whenever it has stuck to its core agenda of Hindutva and nationalism. In the period preceding the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the party wavered quite a bit from its core Hindutva agenda and tried to get into caste politics which backfired because caste politics has never been its strength, says Pradeep Singh. He also adds emphatically that following the order removing RSS ban, it’s perhaps the right time for the Modi government to consider honoring Veer Savarkar with Bharat Ratna.
