AAP party leader and actress Gul Panag today made the startling revelation on twitter that AAP had ‘flirted’ with separatist Khalistani elements, despite her warning, during last year’s Punjab assembly polls as the party believed that Khalistan supporters carried some electoral weightage in the state.
Incidentally, AAP’s dalliance with Khalistani supporters, including many based in Canada and UK, was an open secret that was known to most astute political observers, although it wasn’t given much importance in Lutyens based ‘national’ media for whom AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal is a leading light of the left-liberal bulwark against nationalists represented by Narendra Modi.
But Panag’s tweet raises some important questions as listed in a tweet thread by @yogye –
- Now that Gul Panag, AAP’s LS candidate from Chandigarh in LS 2014 elections and one of the star campaigners for the Punjab assembly elections, has confirmed that AAP’s Khalistan connection was real, why did the lady keep quiet until now? Why did she not quit the party on such a serious matter of national integrity and highlight this to the general public?

If Gul Panag, along with her father – retired General HS Panag (twitter handle @rwac48) who is also an AAP supporter and staunch critic of the Modi Government – knew all along about AAP’s Khalistan connection, why didn’t they speak up? From Gul’s tweet it appears that she objected to the Khalistan ‘flirtation’ only because she knew that Khalistani separatists carry no influence with ordinary voters of Punjab. Do Gul and her father not consider any kind of tie-up with #BreakingIndia forces like Khalistanis as a traitorous act against the nation?
