The Curious Case of Minority Appeasement and West Bengal

The silence of the Lutyens’ media, the so-called intellectuals and the flag-bearers of peace and harmony on the recent atrocities committed against Hindus and the systematic curtailing of their human rights is sickening.

First, let us look at what has happened in West Bengal. A directive was passed by the Mamata Banerjee led TMC government to limit the time zones for Durga idol immersion.  According to the announcement, Durga idol immersion which was set for September 30, will be allowed only till 6 pm and will resume on 2nd October.

Now, what do you think the reason is for this directive?!

The reason is Muharram (minority appeasement). This year Muharram falls on 1st October and the tazias or Muharram processions begin on the previous evening i.e. the evening of September 30. A similar order was passed last year too. Fortunately, the Calcutta High Court intervened in both these cases and squashed the order terming it as arbitrary and a bid to minority appeasement. One of the holiest and auspicious festival of the Hindus is being suppressed so that another community can be appeased. I don’t know if this is not minority appeasement and intolerance, then what is!!!!

I appeal to all the readers, to just for a moment set aside all their political biases and think what would have happened if the religions in the above case would have been reversed, i.e. if Muharram processions would have been banned for a certain time instead of Durga idol immersions. There would have been news articles written, people giving speeches in Bharat and abroad, as to the rising intolerance in the country and the oncoming of a dictatorship, as to how it is the death of democracy and how the country is no longer safe for minorities.

But what is even more saddening, is the ignorance to the systematic curtailing of basic human rights of Hindus by my fellow countrymen and especially Hindus. Hindus have failed to realize the gravity of the situation and how their lives and culture hang on a cliff.

If Hindus fail to act now, it could be possible that they will not get another chance. It the time for Hindus to rise and revolt against this discrimination, otherwise similar orders will be passed in the coming years, not only in West Bengal but other states too; and it could be possible that, at that time, there will be no constitutional body to protect us.

As rightly said by Martin Lurthur King Jr. “Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor”.
