Being a Congress worker can be a thankless job in more ways than one. You need to bury any nascent feelings of patriotism, logic, self-respect and moral code, and learn to just suck up to your bosses and treat the dynasty as messiahs come to deliver this country.

Of course, choosing to be a Congress worker in this day and age means you are the kind of dubious operator simply looking for your share of the corruption gravy train, that is if you are lucky and the party somehow comes to power. It appears there are many who are still hanging on to Congress coat-tails despite the party’s dire state & rudderless, heavily-despised leadership.

Ex-CM Siddaramaiah once again proved that there is no limit that can’t be crossed in the Congress party when it comes to treating those below you with contempt. On Wednesday, he was caught on camera slapping a party worker at Mysuru airport. The Congress leader had slapped Nandanahalli Ravi at the airport after Ravi asked him to speak to a caller on his cellphone.

After the incident, the worker followed Siddaramaiah and was present with him at the Congress workers’s protest at Gandhi Square in Mysuru to protest the arrest of the former minister DK Shivakumar. He called Siddaramaiah a ‘paternal figure’ and dismissed the incident saying he has no issue.

On Thursday, Siddaramaiah claimed that the issue was ‘blown out of proportion’, as it was just an instance of him ‘expressing affection & dissatisfaction out of concern.’

But Siddaramaiah is not alone when it comes to Congress leaders justifying shoddy treatment of workers and ordinary citizens. He is just following the example set by leading lights of his party. Senior leader Digvijay Singh once called a woman leader as ‘Tunch maal’ (sexy item). Current CM of MP, Kamal Nath, once berated a senior bureaucrat reluctant to toe the party line that why was he being difficult when people were even willing to drink Rahul Gandhi’s urine.

This article recounts several examples of how the Congress’ first family has treated senior leaders, even sitting CMs, with contempt – most notable example being a 38-year-old Rajiv Gandhi publicly rebuking the 63-year-old Andhra Pradesh CM T Anjaiah so harshly that the elderly man was reduced to tears.

The original dynast & archetypal ‘Brown Sahib’, Jawaharlal Nehru, was himself known to slap those who offended him – in a public meeting in Delhi in 1934-35, Nehru slapped & abused a local Congress leader because the mike had failed; in 1942, an irate Nehru waded through a crowd of cheering supporters, wildly kicking and slapping anyone who got close to him; in 1948, Nehru and his sister (Vijaylakshmi Pandit) slapped a sadhu who was part of a group peacefully fasting for a ban on cow-slaughter.

Any Congress worker with a shred of dignity will either resign, or take it upon themselves to rid the party of the Nehru-Gandhi clan which has seeped the party in a deep contempt towards the natives of this ancient land.
