Coca Cola Was Started by ‘Shikanji-wala’ in US, Says Lutyens’ PM Candidate Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi is being rebranded for the umpteenth time by his Durbaris – we are being told that this time is different, that the Nehru-Gandhi scion and President of the Congress party has really matured as a leader.

But has he? Or are Congress-supporters being served another false dawn….again? At a party meeting in New Delhi yesterday, the Congress President made a series of head-scratching statements while talking about the issues faced by underprivileged entrepreneurs in Bharat. As reported by Times Of India –

“Congress president Rahul Gandhi offered interesting analogies on Monday to argue that skilled OBC communities are being given short shrift by the Modi government, unlike abroad where the owner of Coca-Cola used to sell shikanji (lemonade) in the US while the owners of McDonald’s ran a “dhaba”.

“Everyone must have heard about the Coca-Cola company. Who started this company, does anyone know? He sold shikanji in America. He used to mix sugar in water. His talent was honoured and he got money and started the Coca-Cola company,” he said.

He blamed the Modi government and RSS, saying “our dhabawallahs or mechanics” do not lack knowledge but doors of banks and politics are shut for our ‘dhabawallahs’, mechanics, ‘dhobis’ and other backwards.”

As this Times of India fact-check shows, Gandhi was way off the mark about  the founders of Coca-Cola and Mc Donald’s –

Even if one overlooks the obvious gaffe and tries to appreciate his intent of talking about lack of finance for entrepreneurs from under-privileged sections, it then becomes inexplicable to understand why Rahul Gandhi has not appreciated the MUDRA yojana launched in 2015 under which loans of up to Rs 10 lakh are provided to just the micro-entrepreneur segment he was talking about.

On the contrary, Congress bigwigs like ex-Finance & Home Minister P Chidambaram have mocked the MUDRA Yojana, just as Congress party have pretty much done with all other initiatives of the present Government.

Recent figures released by the MSME Ministry show that there has been a massive 25% increase in the number of MSMEs in just the last one year – Industry experts say that the easy registration process for establishing a micro enterprise and easy provisions for getting loans under the Mudra scheme are the two main reasons for the rapid increase in MSME units in the country.

These two cartoons are an apt summary of the never-ending rebranding of Rahul Gandhi –
