“For four days beginning 20 June, half a dozen Nihang Sikhs armed with spears and swords held the roof of the Nagrasu Gurdwara in Rudraprayag on the Badrinath highway in Uttarakhand.
They had climbed up after police arrested four of their group over a clash in Karnaprayag days earlier, and they meant to stay until those four were freed. Gurdwara caretakers said the men roughed up volunteers, took the manager hostage and damaged property inside; the group pelted stones at police and passers-by below.
Rudraprayag’s district magistrate and superintendent of police made phone calls and appeals for three days, and ITBP was roped in to hold a perimeter, until a delegation of Nihangs from Punjab arrived and talked the group down……”
