An Indian Army soldier was brutally beaten today by Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers in West Bengal’s Hooghly district.
Posted with Rashtriya Rifles in Bandipora district in Jammu and Kashmir, Praveen Kumar Rajak had come home for holidays. The incident took place at the construction site of his house in Bhadreswar.
Rajak said that TMC goons demanded a donation of Rs 1 lakh from him, failing to which they threatened that the construction workers would not be allowed to fetch water from a nearby public tap.
SOLDIER ALLEGES INACTION BY POLICE
He added that on refusing to concede to their demands, he was beaten by the mob with spade and bamboo sticks.
He named Shamu Paswan and Marko Paswan among the eight who assaulted him and said the local councillor is also involved in the extortion racket.
Rajak filed an FIR soon after but has alleged inaction on part of the authorities. No arrests have been made so far.
Praveen’s brother Pankaj Kumar Rajak said, “If such shameful things are happening to our soldiers, then just think what is going to happen to us.”
Mamata – no love lost for Indian Army
The ruling TMC party had made no bones about the fact that it considers the Indian Army a ‘lackey’ of the NDA Government at Centre. For CM Mamta Banerjee, her short-term political goals come first and the fact that she is ruling a border state has not made any difference to her approach. She openly courts the Islamist lobby, which has run roughshod over the emasculated WB police during her 6 year rule. So much so that neighboring Bangladesh is now pointing fingers at Bharat for hosting jihadi terror camps in West Bengal.
In Dec, a routine drill by Eastern Command of Army to check availability of civil transport for any potential mobilization of troops and stores in case of war, was likened to ‘Emergency being imposed in the country without declaration’ by Mamta Banerjee.
After the Uri terror attack last year in which 18 soliders were killed, Mamata Banerjee had announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh for kin of two army men from Bengal who were killed in that attack. This led to a scathing attack by the twitterati on Mamata with #MartyrsNotBeggars hashtag, comparing the compensation with the Rs 10 lakh given to Hajis from West Bengal who died in a stampede in Mina, Saudi Arabia the year before.
The twitterati compared the Rs 10 lakh compensation to the kin of the deceased Hajis with the Rs 2 lakh to kin of the Uri martyrs, saying the difference and discrimination shows how politically-driven aid announcements are made by the West Bengal Chief Minister.
