In a candid confession YSRCP MP Raghu Ramakrishna Raju admitted in a debate on Times Now that Christian evangelical organisations were indulging in rampant conversions all over Andhra Pradesh using their money power.

While admitting that religious conversions were taking place on a large scale in his home state ruled by Jagan Mohan Reddy he also added that such conversions were taking place all over the country as the missionaries are able to pump the huge amounts of funds they receive from abroad. He said that these conversions were taking place even during previous regimes and that neither his party nor the Andhra Pradesh government was supporting these conversions. He also spoke about other stealthy measures used by evangelical missionaries such as visiting Hindu villages and colonies at night to preach the gospel and induce people to convert. He, however, expressed helplessness at curbing these illegal acts as they were not specific to Andhra alone.
Although Mr Raju has been honest enough in admitting that evangelical organisations are operating freely, he fails to acknowledge that the government machinery itself is involved in facilitating proselytization. We had reported the involvement of Guntur Collector in Christian conversions and also how a police constable was recently suspended for proselytization on duty.
