A violent clash broke out between Bharatiya and Bangladeshi citizens in Sukdevpur village of Maldah district. The village is along the Bharat-Bangladesh international borders. Few Bharatiya villagers were injured in the clashes.
However, there are no fencing in Sukdevpur village along the Bharat-Bangladesh international borders. A week ago, BSF attempted to build a fence along the border. But, due to the objections from the BGB(Border Guard Bangladesh) of Bangladesh, BSF stopped the work.
As per locals, on the morning of 18th of January, some villagers of Sukdevpur noticed that some Bangladeshis had been cutting crops from their field. Seeing this, they protested. But, Bangladeshi Muslim citizens attacked them with sharp weapons. Soon, others from Bharatiya side came near the border. Also, thousand of Bangladeshis also came near the border. Clashes broke out between them. BSF Jawans drove the Bangladeshi citizens at first. But, Bangladeshi citizens started pelting stones and pieces of bricks towards the BSF and Bharatiya villagers.
As of now, tension prevails in the area. Few Bharatiya villagers are injured. They are provided primary treatment and are shifted to local hospital.
Local villagers said that Bangladeshi citizens regularly steal their crops. Today, Bangladeshi citizens were cutting wheat from the field. To stop all these, they demanded a permanent wired fence along the Bharat-Bangladesh international borders.
