Violence Continues Unabated Despite Unilateral Ceasefire by Government in Kashmir

While offer of ceasefire by GOI is hopeful and a humanitarian gesture, it is unlikely to be successful given the resistance by anti-Bharat lobby present in the Kashmir valley. As soon as news of ceasefire came, one by one most of the separatist and terrorist organisations called it futile.

The first one to denounce ceasefire was Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Mahmood Shah who called it “sin and treachery to our cause(jihad) to accept ceasefire”.

Soon after, self-declared Emir of ISJK (Islamic State in Jammu & Kashmir), Zakir Musa also called ceasefire “unislamic” and refused to support it. Later, Joint Resistance Leadership, a motley crew of soft and hard separatists, gave a guarded but pessimistic view on unilateral ceasefire.

Meanwhile the bloodshed continued in J&K:

  • A local youth Hillal Rashid was abducted, tortured and killed by suspected terrorists.

  • Terrorists attacked and stole rifles from police at Dalgate, Srinagar.
  • Terrorists attacked 13RR patrolling party in Hajin Bonikhan mohlla and Mir mohlla area of North Kashmir Bandipora district.
  • Infiltrators were incepted in Handwara who fired upon army when challenged. Resulting encounter saw death of 4 terrorists.

  • In Pulwama, a grenade was hurled at security forces which failed to explode in Murran chowk.
  • More than 10 people have died in cross-border shelling by Pakistan. Lot of houses were damaged and cattle also killed.

The regular incidents of stone pelting, forced strikes and beating up of pro-Bharat youths continued unabated.

Here is a video which has recently gone viral that shows some South Kashmiri youth who had gone for an Army recruitment rally in Bandipora being surrounded and shamed by others for ‘siding with the enemy’

Here are some of he hateful, bigoted comments below the video  – “Brahman koom” (i.e. these people  are like the Brahmin community, aka similar to Kashmiri Pandits), “harami, mukbir…Indian agents” (they are informers and rascals), “We want Islamic state” etc.

In view of all this, the radicalization seems to be winning over any peace efforts by Government, and we are a long way from normalisation of situation in Kashmir.
