Angry villagers of Semra village in Agra district, UP vandalised shops & houses after police inaction over the abduction of a Class 9 girl student by 3 Muslim boys.
As per media reports, the girl (15) who had left for school on Tuesday morning failed to return in the afternoon. When her anxious family went to the school, they were told that the girl had not turned up. Further questioning revealed that 3 Muslim youth from the same village – Abid, Danish and Kaish – had taken the girl away.
The girl’s family went to Khandauli police station to lodge a complaint, but police was apathetic and did not lodge FIR. The family returned to the village and after some time the maternal uncle of the girl received a phone call from the prime accused Abid, warning them not to approach police and that the girl would be returned to her family by midnight.
The girl’s family informed police about this phone call, but police still did not swing into action it is alleged. Around 6 PM in the evening, an angry crowd of 200 men gathered in the village market and started attacking shops of one particular community.
Within an hour, a large police force and senior officers rushed to the village to control the situation. The girl was finally recovered late at night, and the prime accused Abid was also arrested. He is a student of class 11 in a nearby college, and was planning to take the girl to Delhi.
“If the Khandauli police had listened to the complaint of the girl’s family earlier, this violence could have been avoided,” SSP Bablu Srivastava told IndiaToday.
