A Vishwa Hindu Parishad(VHP) leader was brutally murdered by a group of 10 people in a daylight attack when the victim was driving in Pipariya area of Madhya Pradesh’s Hoshangabad district. The deceased VHP leader Ravi Vishwakarma was head of the gau raksha (cow protection) wing of the local VHP unit.
A video of the incident has come out, presumably shot by a passerby, and it shows the brutal nature and preparedness of attackers who ambushed Ravi Vishwakarma. At around 7 pm, Ravi and two of his accomplices were passing through an underbridge in Pipariya, when the group of attackers who were reportedly 10 in number intercepted it with their vehicle and launched a fierce, all-out attack on the unarmed Hindu leader.
Armed with iron rods, they broke the glasses of the car first. They then asked the 2 persons travelling with Ravi to move out of the car. Both these persons were allowed to escape relatively unharmed but as they moved out, the assailants started shooting at Ravi inside the car. One bullet hit his chest while another hit his hand. After shooting him, they pulled him out of the car and kept hitting him with rods and sticks for some time. After the attackers fled from the spot, Ravi was taken to hospital but was declared brought dead on arrival by doctors.
Gopal Soni, a local VHP member, told press that it was a planned and premeditated murder. “Vishwakarma was working for the protection of cows as district chief of VHP’s gau raksha wing. His killing should be probed thoroughly”.
According to reports, the murder was over personal/professional rivalry between Ravi and another person Munna Patel, who both used to supply porters to agricultural mandis. Recently, Rakesh Raghuvanshi, an associate of Ravi, was also arrested under arms act and Ravi was taking up his case and pointing out police’s procedural lapses in the case. On the day of the incident itself, Ravi had met ASP Awdhesh Pratap Singh regarding that matter. While returning from this meeting, he was waylaid by assailants.
Ravi’s brother Amit has given names of people he suspects of killing his brother and police is ascertaining all facts of the case based on statements given by Amit and companions Rajkumar Singh and Suresh Patel who were survivors of the attack. SP Santosh Gaur has announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh on assailants and police is raiding various places to arrest the murderers.
