Student of Arabic in Kolkata’s Maulana Azad College arrested for Lashkar-e-Taiba link

A female student of Maulana Azad college of Kolkata, Tania Parveen, has been nabbed by Special Task Force of West Bengal State Police for links with Islamic terror organisation Pakistan-based LeT. She was arrested from Mawalipur village near Bharat-Bangladesh border that falls under the jurisdiction of Baduria police station, North 24 Parganas district.

Parveen, who is pursuing Masters of Arts in Arabic, is believed to be an active member of Lashkar-e-Taiba’s sleeper cell and has been aiding in the establishment of the terrorist organization in the state. She has also been found to have seeded communal tensions and fanaticism across the state, laying the foundations of widespread Jihad.

Police were monitoring WhatsApp groups created to pass on communications among members of LeT when they got the lead to this 21-year-old woman working for Hafiz Saeed’s terror organization. She was part of a group operating from the outskirts of the state capital; it is also being alleged that Parveen was in touch with the Lashkar mastermind himself and other key militants through Facebook based groups.

She was under the radar for about a year and her activities were being remotely surveilled. Investigating officers had established her links with the terror outfit and after observing her travel history to Delhi, Kashmir and movement throughout the state, a team of STF officers raided Mawalipur on March 19th, and detained Parveen from her house. Reportedly, she has admitted to being part of Whatsapp groups which propagate Jihadist ideologies throughout the state of West Bengal.

She was also receiving directives from a Pakistan-based terrorist, Bilal, and had connected with several other known terrorists. Police officials have recovered 3 mobile handsets from her, along with several books on Jihadi ideology. They are analyzing the call lists and messages in the handsets.

Investigators claim that in addition to LeT, Tania was also receiving commands from officials of Pakistan’s spy agency, ISI. ISI was reportedly using the woman to honey-trap higher officials and gain access to sensitive information.

Tania Parveen has been charged under several sections of the Indian Penal Code for sedition, criminal conspiracy and religious incitement.

It is worth mentioning that the Mamata Banerjee ruled state has turned itself into a hot bed of Islamic terrorism, and jihadi outfits have been mushrooming since the minority-pandering government took charge. In April 2019, an Islamist Telegram channel had released a poster proclaiming “Shigrohi Ashche” in Bengali, translating to “Coming Soon”.

The Islamic State (IS) terror organisation already has its roots deep in neighboring Bangladesh; the Islamic country hosts terrorist organizations like Jamaat’ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), a faction of which called New-JMB is affiliated to IS. It is threatening for West Bengal as JMB operatives are known to recruit from Kolkata and neighboring areas, where they have set up several hideouts. Three years ago, JMB sleeper cells had put up posters across many districts of West Bengal inviting youth to join the terrorist organization.

Back in June, 2019, Kolkata Police arrested 4 JMB terrorists from Kolkata’s Howrah and Sealdah areas. According to NIA, JMB has spread its activities in other states like Jharkhand, Bihar, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Kerala through illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. JMB even conducted a trial of rocket launchers in the Krishnagiri hills along the Karnataka border.
