Sringeri Matha’s revered Pujaris perform Bhoomi Pujan as PM Modi lays foundation of new Parliament building

On Thursday, December 10, 2020, the Prime Minister of Bharat Shri Narendra Damodar Das Modi laid the foundation stone of the new Parliament building in the capital. He also performed the Bhoomi Pujan for an auspicious beginning. The event witnessed political leaders, ambassadors and who’s who of Delhi.

The new parliament building is going to be a feather in Bharat’s cap and will add to the aesthetic charm of the country. The Central Vista project is one of Modi government’s most ambitious projects. It comprises of the regeneration of the area known as Central Vista Avenue, the zone that falls between the Rashtrapati Bhavan and the India Gate.

The Bhumi Pujan was carried out in accordance with Hindu rites. There were several other religious observances that were organized to be held on the auspicious instance of the historic event.

A team of six revered priests from Sringeri Sharada Pitha flew down on Tuesday in order to especially perform the various ceremonies. Acharya V Shivakumar Sharma, KS Lakshmi Narayana Somayaji, KS Ganesh Somayaji, Nagaraja Adiga, Raghavendra Bhatta and Rishyasringa were the six priests who performed the Guru Puja, Ganapathi Puja, Punyaha Vachana, Adikesha Puja, Anantha Pooja, Varaha Puja and Bhuvaneshwari Puja.

The Sringeri Sharada Peetha also sent a unique ‘Shankham’ or conch and ‘Navarathna Peetam’ for the ceremony. These were blessed by the present Shankaracharya Jagadguru Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahasannidhanam.

A ‘sarva dharma prarthana’ (inter-faith prayer) was also conducted. Religious heads of various faiths recited prayers on the occasion.

PM Modi while addressing the country said that-

“This day stands out as a day of pride for more than 130 crore Indians who are being a witness to this historic moment. The new Parliament building will be an example of co-existence of the contemporary and the ancient. It will also give us an opportunity to bring about changes within oneself in accordance with the time and needs.”

PM Modi recollected the time when he got an opportunity to visit the Parliament House for the first time in 2014 as a Member of Parliament and said that-

“Then before stepping into this temple of democracy, I had bowed my head and saluted this temple of democracy. If the old Parliament House gave direction to post-independence India, the new building would become a witness to the creation of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.”

PM Modi also brought to light that the new Parliament will embrace several new things that will assist in intensifying the efficiency of the MPs and will add to their work. He further quoted Guru Nanak Dev Ji and said that dialogue and disagreements can be a part of a positive society, however hope should never fade away.

The new Parliament building will have a majestic Constitution Hall to glass case Bharat’s democratic legacy. A lounge will be built for the members of Parliament. The building will have a library, multiple committee rooms, dining areas and generous parking space. The Lok Sabha legislative chamber will have a seating capacity for 888 members, while the Rajya Sabha will have a capacity of 384 members. The Lok Sabha chamber will have the facility of increasing its sitting capacity to 1,224 members during joint sessions. All of this will be spread over an area of 64,500 square meters in which the new Parliament building will stand elegantly and will be built with an estimated cost of Rs 971 crore.
