AIMIM Adilabad president Farooq Mohammed opens fire, attacks with knife over minor cricket clash

Three persons suffered injuries in indiscriminate firing and a knife attack by All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Adilabad district president Farooq Ahmed on Friday evening. The incident occurred at Thatiguda area in Adilabad district, Telangana.

A video of the incident has since gone viral (warning: distressing images, discretion advised).

Farooq has been arrested and a case of attempt to murder as well as under various sections of the Arms Act has been registered against him.

Police said a clash among youths while playing cricket was the provocation behind the attack, but an old political rivalry too is suspected to have played a part. All involved were associated with AIMIM for some time but some moved away from the party in 2018.

During the altercation, Farooq fired five rounds, injuring two youths who collapsed after receiving one bullet each. He also slashed a man in the stomach.

Two of the injured, Zameer and Moteshan, are undergoing treatment at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) at Adilabad, Mannan, who is seriously injured, has been shifted to Hyderabad for better treatment.

As per reports, Farooq had served as deputy chairman of Adilabad municipality and is currently the president of the AIMIM Adilabad district unit.
