Police arrests 3 Muslim men for assaulting locals amidst grooming allegation: Indore, MP

Police in Indore, MP has arrested 3 Muslim youth – Shadab, Parvez, Mohammed Kaif – on charges of assault and other IPC sections.

The 3 men were coming out of a Chai-Sutta bar in the Bhawar Kuan area of Indore on Sunday night along with 2 girls, when they were questioned by some locals on suspicion that the girls were minor. But suddenly the accused started assaulting the locals.

They were taken into custody by police but clashed with them too. Later, a large crowd of Hindus gathered at the police station demanding strict action against the 3 men as cases of grooming of Hindu girls by Muslim youth continue to be reported from the area. Police said more IPC sections could be added against the accused based on findings of the investigation.

The MP government recently promulgated the Freedom of Religion Ordinance, 2020, which penalises religious conversions by misrepresentation, allurement, use of threat of force, undue influence, coercion, marriage or by any other fraudulent means. 23 cases were lodged within a month of the new law coming into force.

The highest number of seven cases was reported in the Bhopal division followed by five in Indore, four each in Jabalpur and Rewa, and three in the Gwalior division.

Most cases fall in the grooming jihad category, such as this from Indore’s Azad Nagar area where Sohail Khan and Hasan Qadir were arrested for harassing and blackmailing two Hindu girls to convert their religion and marry them. The accused had somehow obtained the mobile numbers of both girls and started chatting after concealing their identity, and then invited them to join in a cafe to ‘celebrate their birthday’.
