Even as Hindus all over the world were celebrating Krishna Janmashtami on August 30, a temple in Pakistan was vandalised by Islamists for doing the same. The incident came to light after Pakistani Christian activist Rahat Austin and journalist Aditya Raj Kaul tweeted about the incident. 

The temple in Khipro, Sindh was attacked by an Islamist mob while the Janmashtami celebrations were ongoing. Bhagwan Krishna’s murti in the temple was vandalised in this attack with its hands and legs broken which ascertains the fact that it was the celebration of janmashtami that the Islamists were against.

A Hindu woman who witnessed the sacrilegious act has explained how the islamists attacked the temple in a video posted by Aditya Raj Kaul. Rahat Austin had tweeted that “Even false allegation of Blasphemy against Islam leads to mob lynching or death sentence but crimes against non-Muslim Gods go unpunished” in Pakistan.

In the first week of August another Hindu temple in Bhong city of Rahimyar Khan district in Punjab province was vandalised and Islamists derived pleasure by live streaming the rampage on Facebook. In March a 100 year old temple in Rawalpindi was attacked and the mob tried to set it on fire. 

Last year, in December, another temple in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was burnt to the ground by a frenzied mob which was justified by radical Islamic preacher Zakir Naik as “No temples should be allowed to be built in an Islamic country”. With such preachers encouraging violence against Hindus and the rise of the Taliban, Muslims have become more emboldened in harassing Hindus.
