Skeletal remains of Rekha Tigga (27) and her baby daughter Priyanka (5) were found in the septic tank of their rented house in Ranchi last Monday. Police & Rekha’s family suspect her live-in partner Mohammed Shamim of having murdered the mother-daughter duo and dumping their bodies in the septic tank to decompose.
Rekha was last seen on August 21, and Shamim, a mason by profession, was seen till evening of August 22 as per local media reports.
On 24 August, Shamim returned to the rented house in Pipra Toli to pick up some stuff, and he told the landlord – Bhairo Tigga, a retired ASI from CISF – that he had shifted to his village and Rekha and the child were fine over there.
When Bhairo Tigga detected a foul smell coming from the backyard he called the police, and they found the woman and her daughter’s remains at the bottom of the septic tank.
Rekha had married Deepak Oraon (Tigga is one of the surnames kept by people of Oraon tribe) in 2014. But her husband died around one year later in a road accident. Some time later, Rekha, who used to work as a laborer, came in contact with Mohammed Shamim and they both started a live-in relationship, staying in several places in the state.
Deputy SP Hatia Prabhat Ranjan Barwar said that prima facie it seems like a case of murder. “However, after postmortem, some clue may come up, but so far, the needle of suspicion for murder is pointing towards the alleged victim’s live-in partner Mohammed Shamim. The raids are on to arrest him,” he said.
The room and scene of the crime have been cordoned off for forensic experts to investigate further.
Last year, 55-year-old Jalaluddin Khan had burnt alive his live-in partner Sangita Devre (40), her daughter Pritee Shendge (19), and nine-month-old grand-daughter Siddhi at Sangita’s residence in Nasik, Maharashtra, when Sangita asked him to shift somewhere else till the time her married daughter was visiting her.
