Policeman Vilas Shinde Murdered by Muslim Youth, Media Hides Murderer’s Identity

Mumbai Police constable Vilas Shinde (52) who was assaulted by Ahmed Qureshi (21) on 23 Aug, died yesterday in Lilavati hospital of the head injury sustained in that assault. He is survived by his wife Sadhna, two children and 75 year old father. Shinde’s fault – he had hauled up Qureshi’s 16 year old brother who was driving without a helmet during a data collection drive organized by Mumbai Police.

As per media reports, constable Shinde was collecting data – vehicle number, mobile number of the motorist or biker, address – as per a plan through which police wanted to send challans directly to mobile/address for vehicles breaking traffic rules. Shinde, who was attached to the Mahim-Bandra Causeway traffic chowky, had recorded 218 cases as part of the drive till the incident happened, according to an officer.

At around 3.30 pm (on 23 Aug) at a petrol pump in Khar (West), Shinde stopped a 16-year-old biker without a helmet, and forcibly removed his bike keys. He told the boy to call his parents which caused an altercation between the two. The boy called up his elder brother Ahmed Qureshi who picked up a bamboo stick and beat Shinde on the head. The duo then fled the scene.

Shinde was rushed to Lilavati Hospital and a complaint under Section 307 (Attempt to murder) was registered against the brothers who were later arrested.

Police families in shock

Constable Shinde lived with his family in Worli’s BDD chawl, along with other police families. His wife Sadhna and two children – Divyesh (a networking engineer), 23 and Kalyani, who is married – are in a state of shock.

Residents of the 28th building in the BDD Chawl in Worli were outraged by the death of Shinde, who was a dear friend and one of the most popular cops there. They are particularly enraged that it is only now, after Shinde’s death, that political leaders were offering to help.

When CM Fadnavis went to visit the family, his path was blocked by 30-40 angry wives of policemen, who screamed, “We want justice!” He assured the group, “Whatever inquiry needs to happen, will happen. I will make sure that the family gets compensation and government jobs.” But this did not soothe the enraged family members of the constable. “What will the cops do with this money? Keep it with you and give us safety. Make rules so that people don’t take the police for granted,” said one of Shinde’s relatives, Chandrasekhar Sardesai.

One of the officers’ wives pointed out that cops are neither allowed to form unions nor are they allowed to hold protests. “Their hands are tied and lips are sealed. One word out and they will be suspended. This is wrong and needs to be stopped immediately,” she said. Another woman, Janvi Bhagat said, “Look at each woman here, you can see the fear on their faces. We can never be sure whether our husbands will return from work or not. Now we don’t even know if there will be justice. We don’t want money, we want our rights.”

“We grew up together. He was one of my closest friends. Everyone loved Shinde. He was courageous, honest and kind; he didn’t deserve this,” said Bapu Gurav, one of his friends. Another close friend, Shailesh Kambhle, said, “Now the message to the youth will be that whatever you do, you can get away with it. The biker in this case will get away with the crime as well, since he is a juvenile offender. Then he will brag, ‘Oh hey, you know I beat up a police man.’”

Media Hide’s Qureshi’s identity, distorts facts

The details of the case are to be found mostly in the Mumbai tabloids like Mumbai Mirror or Mid-Day. Only Times of India amongst frontline media outlets has disclosed the name of the assaulter – 21 year old Ahmed Qureshi. Hindustan Times in its report just mentions that the cop was attacked by 2 brothers – aged 16 and 21 – but does not give the name of the 21 year old.

NDTV leads the pack in mis-reporting & hiding facts. Their headline says “Traffic Cop Dies After Juvenile Biker Allegedly Attacks Him In Mumbai”. Yes, you read that right – an attack which occurred in broad daylight at a busy petrol pump is still ‘alleged’ in the eyes of NDTV. The report misleadingly says that it was the juvenile biker who attacked Shinde with the wooden plank, and that he was joined by a ‘friend’.

Pattern of such attacks

Most youth in Bharat do transgress traffic laws at some point or the other. Driving helmetless or without required papers is unfortunately a widespread disease – however, if stopped by a traffic constable, most youngsters will at most try to plead their way out of trouble. And if a cop were to speak tough, that is enough to send shivers down the spine of most.

But is this respect for the law missing in many Muslim youth? Lets see some other recent cases where Muslims have assaulted cops, as individuals or in mobs –

July 2015: In a mirror image of the assault on Constable Shinde, two traffic policemen in Delhi were brutally assaulted by traffic violators, after the officers asked the accused to pay a fine for not wearing helmets. Shahnawaz (22), his brother and their father Sagir Ahmed (65) were arrested for the assault. Here is a video of the incident shot by a bystander:

June 2015: 42 police personnel injured after large mob of Muslims turns violent in Ambur, Tamil Nadu. Ambur MLA Askam Basha (MNMK leader – 2011 alliance partner of AIADMK) reportedly instigated the protesters to attack the police.

March 2016: Muslim mob attacks police post over Facebook post in West Bengal’s Birbhum district.

Jan 2016: Muslim mob protesting against Kamlesh Tiwari’s alleged remarks against the prophet of Islam, ransack police station & clash with BSF in Kaliachak, Malda, West Bengal

Aug 2012: Protests at Azad Maidan, Mumbai to condemn the Rakhine riots in Myanmar and Assam riots, turned violent after a 40000 strong Muslim crowd started attacking police, media and even bystanders. The riot resulted in two deaths and injuries to 54 people including 45 policemen – at least 5 police constables were molested by the mob. Here is a video of the mob attack.

Of course, one need not mention the ongoing ‘protests’ in Kashmir where every day J&K police, CRPF and even Army are attacked by Muslim mobs.

Role of Community and Political leaders, Media, Academics

What is the reason for this rage and aggression bubbling under the surface in Muslim masses? Liberal-secular intellectuals will either avoid discussing this issue, or put it down to the ‘oppression’ of the Hindu majoritarian State of Bharat. This victim mentality is deeply embedded in the Muslim psyche and it is constantly reinforced by their religious leaders, Urdu media and politicians. But is that the reality? Many Bharatiyas feel marginalized and aggrieved due to injustice of the State today – from the farmers committing suicide to the likes of Nirbhaya’s parents waiting for justice. And who can feel more betrayed than Kashmiri Pandits who were thrown out of their homes enmasse in 1990? Do these sections resort to wanton violence or show contempt for the law?

When highly educated, articulate Muslim leaders like MP Asaduddin Owaisi refer to police as ‘khatmal (bedbug), or his MLA brother Akbaruddin calls for civil war (“remove police for 15 minutes so 25 crore Muslims can teach 100 crore Hindus a lesson”), Bijnore Imam Maulana Anwarul Haq threatens police after he is accused of rape..then it should not come as a surprise that Muslim hotheads resort to violence at the drop of a hat. To make it worse, terror apologists like Congress’ Digvijay Singh & Salman Khurshid actively flame the fires of Muslim victimhood.

Our national media tries its best to suppress news related to Muslim intolerance and violence, as their secular-liberal rule book says that reporting the facts will strengthen the ‘stereotypes’ regarding Islam. But they feel no such compunction in playing up Dalit atrocity stories, even going to the extent of fabrication, to deepen caste divisions in Hindu society. The net result of media double standards is that while the average Hindu is aware of the problems posed by caste discrimination (even to the point of self-loathing), the average Muslim ends up believing that his community is under siege in Bharat and that their only chance of survival is to unite against the kafirs (non-believers).

The role of Urdu media is even more damaging as they often spin conspiracy theories whenever Muslims are arrested for any crime of violence, rioting etc – a deeply uncritical community primed on a steady diet of victimhood readily laps up outlandish theories like ’26/11 – RSS ki saazish’ (RSS is behind the 26/11 attacks). Tufail Ahmed has revelaed how Urdu media icons like the duplicitous Shahid Siddiqui are actually radicalizing Muslims of Bharat behind a charade of secularism for English speaking audiences.

And finally, our education system and Marxist historians like Romila Thapar, Irfan Habib, MN Roy, Bipin Chandra etc. have tried hard to negate and deny the atrocities unleashed on Hindus during the millennium-long attack by Muslim invaders.  They have projected Islam as a progressive, egalitarian faith while Hindu Dharma is shown as backward and oppressive – hide the negatives of Islam and exaggerate the negatives of Hindu Dharma is their credo. The work of Western Indologists like Max Mueller, Monier Williams to the present day Wendy Doniger and Sheldon Pollock has further characterized Hindu Dharma and Hindu society as oppressive, abnormal, barbaric and violence loving. Communalism is characterized as a 20th century phenomenon, and ‘Hindu fanatics’ are blamed for spreading ‘communal poison’.

The upshot of all this indoctrination is that the average Muslim is unaware of facts and history, feels no need for introspection on proclivity for violence within his community, and has developed barely disguised contempt for the laws of Bharat. In a way, all of the actors listed above are indirectly responsible for the murder of Vilas Shinde.
