Mob Tries to Lynch National Level Wrestler in UP

A national level wrestler and his friend were brutally assaulted by a fanatical Muslim mob near Parikshitgadh bus stand in Mawana, district Meerut, UP on 2nd August. Both were rescued in the nick of time by police. Later the mob gathered at the police station and had to be dispersed with a lathi charge. Many shops were shut down due to resulting communal tension. A huge police contingent had to be rushed to calm the situation.

According to police, national level wrestler Rohit (son of Bijendra), a resident of Rani Nangla village, along with his friend Sandeep Putra Kiran Singh, were riding on a scooty around 12.30 pm. Near the bus stand a car hit them from behind; when they protested, around six youths got out of the car and started arguing with them. Those 6 youth made a few calls and soon managed to gather a crowd of around 50-60 people.

The group then attacked Rohit and Sandeep, with the intent of killing them, using wooden sticks (lathis) and bladedweapons. One person even fired from a revolver. When the duo tried to flee, the crowd started pelting stones at them, due to which there was chaos in the market and sensing tension in the area many shopkeepers shut down their shops. After information reached police, they managed to save Rohit and Sandeep and got them admitted in CHC (Community Health Centre). In a short while, the mob reached the police station as well, and the SHO Vijay Kumar and other police personnel lathi-charged and drove them away.

Main accused escapes from police station, sends his wife to file counter complaint

As per police, the SHO caught and sent the prime accused Deen Mohammad and Shahrukh to police station in a jeep. However, Deen Mohammad managed to escape from the police station and reached CHC. From there he managed to get himself a referral for Meerut Hospital. By the time police got to know of this, he had fled the scene.

When the cops tried calling him, he said that he was returning from Meerut in his car, where he had taken his wife for a medical consultation. On the way, a scooty was parked near a turn. When he asked for it to be removed, the youths (Rohit and Sandeep) assaulted him. The doctors in CHC referred him to Meerut. He didn’t divulge his correct address.

Meanwhile, Deen Mohammad’s wife reached the police station and recorded her statement. The cops raided his house, but he was absconding.

One accused involved in 2009 riots too

Incidentally, communal riots had taken place in the year 2009 too, near Parikshitgadh Bus Stand. When Deen Mohammad’s wife came to record her statement at the police station, she was accompanied by one Shah Fahad who apart from being involved in the current attack on Rohit, was also arrested for the 2009 rioting.

Police recorded an FIR based on the statement of Rohit against 14 named accused – Deen Mohammad, Iqbal, Shahrukh, Amir, Shah Fahad, Babar, Faraz, Ahmed, Amjad, Nadeem, Gori, Mushir, Atiq, Rabnawaz – and 50-60 unknown people in a case of rioting, attempt to murder, assault, stone-pelting, reckless driving along with three other PPD acts and seven criminal law acts. As per Rural SP Rajesh Kumar, the attackers will be identified based on the footage available and strict action will be taken against them.
