Malegaon MLA Maulana Mufti’s connection with wanted accused Iqbal from Myanmar

The Union Home Ministry (MHA) has directed the state government to interrogate Maulana Mufti Mohammad Ismail and submit a report on his alleged links with Myanmar resident Iqbal, who is on MHA’s list of wanted. MLA Maulana Mufti said that Assembly Speaker Nana Patole had personally informed him in this regard.

As per available information, Iqbal had come to Malegaon on 7 December 2018 and had lived in the city till December 14. Iqbal is a suspect and his whereabouts should be investigated keeping in view the security of the country and the city demanded former MLA Asif Sheikh. Reports indicate that the hotel where Iqbal stayed was also reserved in the name of some person from the city.

Iqbal is said to have attended a wedding ceremony here where he met Maulana Mufti. Additionally, it has come to light that Mufti and Iqbal even met abroad. Photos of their foreign meets have also gone viral on social media.

Demanding a thorough investigation in this matter, Sheikh raised several questions such as to how the police did not know about the person who came from abroad, what is his connection with Dubai, Bangladesh, Myanmar? What business is he into? What kind of relationship does he share with political leaders in Bharat?

Taking note of Sheikh’s demands and request for an investigation, MHA directed the state government to investigate and submit a report. The investigation will be carried by the local police. However, the police have not yet received any notification or order in this regard as yet.

Meanwhile, MLA Mufti has commented on the issue and denied being present at the wedding attended by Iqbal. He also added that some persons had brought Iqbal to him. Mufti also alleged that there are photos of former MLA Asif Sheikh with Iqbal too. MLA Maulana Mufti told reporters that he was ready to face any inquiry.

AIMIM Maulana Mufti had earlier barged into a hospital in Malegaon during the lockdown along with his supporters and attacked medical staff for not answering his phone calls. They had also created ruckus at the hospital in addition to obstructing hospital staff from performing their duties and assaulting doctors that too at a time when section 144 had been imposed.
