Mafia don turned ‘secular’ politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf shot dead

News agency ANI has just reported that mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf Ahmed were shot dead while being taken for a medical check up in Prayagraj.

Further details on this developing story are awaited.

On April 13, Atiq Ahmed’s son Asad and a shooter Ghulam Mohammed were killed in an encounter with UP police in Jhansi. The two were wanted for the brazen murder of lawyer Umesh Pal, an eyewitness to the murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal by Atiq Ahmed’s gang, and his police guards Sandeep Nishad and Raghavendra Singh. Asad Ahmed and other members of Atiq Ahmed’s mafia were planning an attack on a police convoy to free the gangster-politican.

Atiq Ahmed had threatened to take revenge from police for his son’s death. “Jis police officer ne maara hai mere bete ko, mujhe nikalne do, phir batata hu (Allow me to get out of jail, and I will show the officer who killed my son),” he reportedly threatened.
