Madrassa cleric who sodomised minor student arrested

Thrissur Cherpu police have arrested a madrassa cleric named Ashraf after he sodomised a student. The accused is from Malappuram, and the minor victim was raped at the Darussalam madrassa in Chirakkal.

A team led by Circle Inspector TV Shibu arrested Ashraf from Malappuram. The 15-year-old victim (also from Malappuram) was pursuing Islamic studies at Darussalam madrassa and was staying at the boarding school.

Unable to bear the torture, he informed his parents when he visited them for the holidays. His parents approached the childline officials, who informed the police. Ashraf has been booked under sections related to the POCSO act.

Such vile acts on minors at the hands of pedophile teachers like Ashraf are increasing in Kerala. Still, it is not stopping Muslim parents from taking their young children to such boarding schools run by radical Islamists with government funding.

In February 2022, a madrassa teacher named Akbar Shah who had been sexually abusing his minor girl student since she was 6 years old was arrested by Kerala police.

In the same month, another Madrassa teacher Mohammad Swalih was arrested and charged under the POCSO Act after his girl students revealed that his language was laced with sexual overtones and that he touched them unnecessarily.

In May 2022, in yet another case of sexual assault, four prominent Islamists were arrested for abusing a minor boy. The accused include an Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leader, a madrassa president, and a middleman.

In the same month, another madrassa teacher Basheer Saqafi (52) had sexually assaulted a 14-year-old boy.

In June 2022, a 43-year-old madrassa cleric named Zubair Darimi was arrested for sodomizing a 13-year-old student in the Kasaragod district of Kerala.
