Love Jihad: Man Hid His Religion, Married a Woman, Tortured Her and Molested Own Daughter

A woman has accused a man of lying about his name and religion to get into a relationship with her and then marrying her after forcefully converting her religion to Islam. Later, he absconded with the woman’s jewellery and cash, reports Hindi daily Amar Ujala.

In this case of Love Jihad, around three years ago the victim got in contact with a man named Dilshad Saqlaini who ran a placement agency in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. Victim told that he lied about his name and religion and befriended her. Soon they fell in love and got into a live-in relationship as he promised to marry her.

Around eight months back, she gave birth to a girl on 15 April, 2018. When she asked him to marry her, the accused threatened to kill her family. Then, on September 12, 2018, he forcefully converted the woman’s religion to Islam at Delhi’s Nizamuddin and brought her to Greater Noida. Since then, she has been living there as a tenant in Gaur City-1 society.

Victim has accused her husband of physically assaulting and raping her after marriage by forcing unnatural intercourse several times. Not only this, he also allegedly indulged in obscene acts with their infant daughter.

She told that Dilshad used to starve her and also insult her by disrobing her in public. In fact, she broke all relations with her family and relatives to be with him. One month back, he also demanded dowry from the victim after threatening her at gunpoint. When she denied, he ran away with 1.5 Lakhs rupees and a gold chain that belonged to her.

The victim tried to register a complaint on December 7, 2018 but police did not file any complaint. She has accused that police asked her to remove the accusation of molesting their daughter. Later, on SSP’s instructions, police filed an FIR on December 28, 2018, but did not take any action. However, DSP has assured the victim that police has been searching for the accused and will arrest him soon.

Case history

As per this report of Navbharat Times, Dilshad sold his daughter, when she was just 5-days old, to a couple for Rupees Fifty Thousand and absconded. The victim was still in hospital recovering from the delivery at that time. However, police was successful in rescuing the baby on 9 May and Dilshad was arrested on the charges of selling the baby and raping the woman on pretext of marriage.

Back then, Dilshad’s family had intervened and brokered a settlement by promising to the girl that they would get her married to him. Because of this, on 30 may court granted bail to Dilshad. But whatever hopes the woman harboured were soon shattered.

HinduPost had covered this case in May 2018 – at the time, Punjab Kesri had reported that Dilshad assumed a fake Hindu identity with the name ‘Devender’ to trap the woman in a relationship and married her in a temple as per Hindu rites.  When she found out that she had been cheated, they had a big argument but Dilshad threatened and blackmailed her with some obscene photos to continue the relationship. Shortly thereafter, he sold their newborn baby for Rs 50,000 and ran off.

Dilshad pretended to be ‘Devender’ to entrap his wife; he blackmailed & threatened his wife to continue their marriage when his true identity was exposed; lastly, he sold his baby daughter for adoption for Rs. 50,000

Unfortunately, the woman did not learn her lesson the first time around, and neither was there any social support system to counsel her to prosecute Dilshad Saqlaini for his crimes. She decided to believe Dilshad’s family and compromise, resulting in even more suffering for her and her infant daughter.
