The DMK government in Tamil Nadu has been arresting people who criticize or highlight its misgovernance and expose Dravidian ideology. Recently Maridhas, a YouTuber who exposed Dravidianists celebrating and mocking the helicopter crash in Coonoor and making fun of CDS Bipin Rawat and 13 others deaths. Many such people who have been exposing DMK’s anti-Hindu, anti-Bharat stance are being targeted since the party came to power in May.
These people, most of them social media influencers, are arrested under IT Act with the Goondas Act as well slapped on them. The vague provisions of IT Act have been used to target the likes of Maridhas, Kalyanaraman and Kishore K Swamy. But DMK and DK supporters have been doing and saying far worse and we will see the kind of lies and misinformation their leader CM MK Stalin spread.
To begin with, during his election campaign MK Stalin spread mistrust about vaccines invented and manufactured in Bharat. He said “There is news of a vaccine..(being invented) but it’s not clear how effective it is or whether it’s 100% successful..VIPs like the PM or CM haven’t taken it. Only a few doctors and some others took it. Because it is like a test only”. Following his lead, many from his own party and allies started spreading the same canard about the efficiency of the vaccines. They also spread lies about the Covaxin’s safety when Actor Vivek, who took it, died of a heart attack.
Another lie repeated by Stalin during election rallies was that the now repealed farm laws would snatch the right of farming from small-time farmers. He said “farmers will not be allowed to carry out farming in their fields. Even if they are allowed to farm then they won’t be able to sell the produce at a price they want. Farmers’ markets or mandis will be shut down totally. It is going to be transferred into the hands of private players like Adani”.
Stalin had no qualms about lying that he went as far as to say “Modi ordered to shoot down the Sterlite protesters and EPS followed the orders” in one of his election rallies. When it comes to Hindu scriptures and rituals, Stalin can be called an expert at misinterpreting them as he repeatedly told the same lie on many occasions. While gracing more than one non-Hindu wedding, Stalin told the crowd that mantras/slokas chanted in Hindu marriages have vulgar meaning. Height of his and his ally Thirumavalavan’s anti-Hindu stand was at display when the latter organized “Uproot Sanatana Dharma” conference and the former graced it as chief guest.
Before accusing Maridhas and other DMK critics of sedition, Stalin should remember that he and his colleagues called Bharat as a “Union of States“. DMK spokesperson said in a live debate that “India as a country doesn’t have people of its own and if 30 states decide to secede there will be no India”. DMK gave ticket to someone who said “provoking Tamils is necessary so that it becomes a detonator and evolves into founding a “United States of India” or a “Republic of South India”. He, Dr.Ezhilan, is the MLA of Thousand Lights assembly constituency now.
DMK supporters had a field day when TN BJP launched its manifesto and spread so much fake news through memes. Height of them was about BJP promising to rename Tamil Nadu as Dakshin Bharat which was amplified by the likes of Thirumavalavan.
All of these incidents are fit to be booked for promoting enmity between different groups, causing fear or alarm to the public, or to any section of the public whereby any person may be induced to commit an offense against the state, defamation, spreading malicious rumors and under the IT Act. However such comments were let go while DMK has been arresting ordinary people under Goondas for far less since the moment it came to power.
