In a heartening gesture of solidarity with armed forces, people of Kashmir mourned death of two policemen in heavy numbers and politicians, irrespective of party affiliation, condemned the cowardly killing by terrorists.
In early hours of 12th June 2018, two policemen SgCTs Ghulam Rasool and Ghulam Hassan were ambushed in Court complex picket In Pulwama. They were preparing for sehri of Shab-e-Qadr night. Both died on the spot. The terrorists decamped with fallen cop’s guns which seems to be primary motive behind attack.
The deceased were given martyr’s farewell in District Police Lines Pulwama and later their bodies were handed over to families.
Eyewitness informed that thousands of wailing men, women and children turned up for the last rites of the constables. Emotional scenes were witnessed when the body of SgCT Police Cop Ghulam Hassan reached his home in Rafiabad area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
The people were equally sad and enraged at cowardly attack on one of their own and expressed it freely with press.
Touseef Raina, an activist wrote on the social media website Facebook, “Solidarity with the families of policemen who were killed in Pulwama during the holy night. It was the time to seek God’s mercy but the murderers have defied the essence of the special occasion.”
Not only public but politicians across the spectrum as well, came out strongly against terror incident. Former chief minister Omar Abdullah today said militants “will only have themselves to blame” if government forces hit them harder than before after the Government of Bharat’s peace initiative ends. Abdullah further said that those who killed the policemen in Pulwama “deserve nothing but eternal flames of hell”.
With the militant organisations doing their best to make sure the ceasefire is a failure they will only have themselves to blame if the security forces come back at them even harder when the ceasefire ends. https://t.co/3QhgN8sO4v

Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti as well, strongly condemned the killing.
In a statement, she described the act as highly reprehensible which was committed on an auspicious night and cautioned people against such incidents which have the potential of depriving them from the gains of the peace moves like suspension of security operations and dialogue offer undertaken by the State and Central Governments recently.
These development reflect a shift in attitude of valley as such huge crowds are rarely witnessed for cop’s funeral but were regular for terrorists.
