Grooming jihad of Christian woman in Kerala

Another case of grooming jihad of a Christian lady has been reported from Kerala. The circumstances under which the woman escaped an Islamist conversion attempt are the subject of an investigation by intelligence authorities. The lady came out against her husband, claiming that he tried to convert her to Islam after marrying under the Special Marriage Act. She was allegedly kept under house arrest when she refused to leave her faith.

Though the communist government denies it, her revelations give credence to the fact that grooming jihad is alive and kicking in Kerala. Authorities did well to hide the personnel details of the accused. It is believed that he could well be a ‘big fish.’ Not a single mainstream media house reported the incident.

A few months ago, the husband filed a habeas corpus petition asking for the court’s help to bring his wife back from her house. He alleged that she left for her parent’s house and didn’t return. A person may use the legal remedy known as habeas corpus to ask a court to issue an order forcing the person’s guardian to bring the captive into court and determine the legality of the detention. Radical Islamists use this option to force their victims into Islamic Centres that brainwash, after which the ladies are forever lost.

The Kerala high court asked the police to investigate the incident. A police officer said they met the wife, who made severe accusations against the Muslim man. The woman claimed frequent intimidation and was not permitted to speak to anyone during her stay at his residence. The officer added that he looked into the claims of threat and coercion to see if they were real. The High Court rejected the habeas corpus because it had no merit.

According to the information the husband provided to the court, he married the woman on October 13, 2021, under the Special Marriage Act, and they started living together. He claimed that his wife visited her ailing grandma at her parents’ residence on December 15, 2021, but she didn’t come back even after Christmas. He claimed his wife had been unlawfully held against her will by her father.

When a police team arrived, the woman said she had decided to remain and didn’t want to return to her husband’s home in Alappuzha. She said that she was forced to agree to the marriage after the grooming jihadi threatened to kill himself. The accused took the victim to his house on September 4, 2021, and kept her under house arrest. She was then coerced into giving her approval for the marriage.

His intentions were clear. Though the marriage was performed per the Special marriage act, the Muslim husband listed her name as Sara Beevi in religious records. He intimidated the lady and repeatedly attempted to convert her to Islam. The poor victim waited for her chance and escaped her husband’s home.

It is not clear whether the jihadi is under arrest, and if not, then why is he free? Most societies would consider such cases as nothing but modern-day slavery. Going by our system’s previous records, she might even be forced to leave with him. The marriage certificate might well do for ‘evidence.’ It seems some laws do not apply to Hindus and Christians.
