Employees complain against high-handedness of Jashpur SDM Jyoti Babli

Employees are fed up with the highhanded behavior of Jashpur SDM Jyoti Babli who demands a variety of items from fruits and vegetables to chicken, mutton, and even pigeons from her juniors. She threatens the Patwaris and Tehsildars who refuse to comply with her orders. Jyoti Babli Kujur is posted as SDM of Baghicha located in Chhattisgarh’s Jashpur district. The employees have complained to the Collector accusing the SDM of financial and mental torture.

In fact, the employees have put grievances in the application given to Collector Mahadev Kavre. The tehsildar of Baghicha and Sanna, revenue officials, revenue inspectors, patwaris, and employees have raised 8 points in their complaint. They have requested the Collector to take action against the SDM by conducting an inquiry against her. They have said that they are being tortured and forced to work in an environment of fear.

It is alleged that the collector was instructed to collect Rs 2 lakh in the name of Holi gifts. For this, the Baghicha tehsildar was asked to collect Rs 7 thousand each from the patwari and revenue inspectors. In the meeting, the tehsildar said that as he could not collect two lakh rupees, he was thrown out. The Patwari and revenue inspectors were also asked to deposit 7 thousand rupees every month and when they protested a fine of rupees one thousand rupees was collected from them.

The employees have said in their complaint that SDM Jyoti would ask her juniors to purchase items for her household use such as monthly rations, fruits, vegetables, curd, juice, dry fruits, chicken, mutton, pigeons, and several other items. The cost of these items was also to be borne by her juniors including patwaris, revenue inspectors, and clerks. Additionally, SDM Jyoti would threaten to initiate action against those who refused to comply with her orders.

The juniors are not only made to purchase personal use items for the SDM in the name of following protocols but the patwaris and revenue officers are also to deliver these items to the SDM’s residence. The complaint also says that SDM Jyoti Babli collected Rs 25 to 30 thousand on 17 February by threatening and blackmailing them. The SDM is said to have transferred those who didn’t obey her orders.

Furthermore, the SDM has been misusing funds collected in the name of the state government’s scheme of distributing free items for the poor. As per available information, the SDM would ask her employees and other well-known people to deposit anywhere between one and five thousand rupees. Of the 20 to 25 lakhs thus collected, SDM Jyoti Babli Kujur is said to have swindled a significant amount by way of collecting commissions. The complaint asks for probing such deals.

SDM Jyoti Babli Kujur has described the complaint as fake while refusing to comment further on the issue. Collector Mahadev Kavre said that the complaint has been received through the post and the entire case will be investigated.
