Dawood’s nephew Sohail Kaskar gives Mumbai police the slip, reportedly escapes to Pak via Dubai

Dawood Ibrahim’s nephew Sohail Kaskar has reportedly slipped away from the hands of Mumbai Police and is said to have reached Pakistan from Dubai. American agencies had taken Danish Ali and Kaskar into custody in a narco-terrorism case following which Mumbai police had been attempting to bring him to Bharat. Questions are also being raised about the lack of coordination between Bharatiya and American agencies.

Available information suggests that the Mumbai police learned of Kaskar’s presence in Dubai after it intercepted a conversation. However, when they contacted American agencies they came to know that the accused had already escaped to Pakistan raising serious concerns about the working of the Mumbai police that had been attempting to get Dawood’s nephew extradited ever since Danish Ali had been brought back to Bharat.

Kaskar and Ali came under the radar of the American agencies when they were in Spain. The Spanish police and American agencies then began monitoring their activities. The agencies had used one of their officers to meet the duo disguised as a terrorist of the Revolutionary Armed Force of Columbia. American agencies had been conducting sting operations of the meetings to gather evidence against the duo. Subsequently, Kaskar and Ali were arrested in 2014 for dealing in air missiles and heroin.

The US Federal Court sentenced him in 2018 after which was to be extradited to Bharat since he had a Bharatiya passport at the time of his arrest. Kaskar’s extradition was to take place on the basis of the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty signed between Bharat and the US in 2005. It was expected that his custody would help the Mumbai Police to get more details about Dawood Ibrahim who is currently in Pakistan.

BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala commented on the development and said “it is not a coincidence that criminals are able to give the Mumbai police the slip time and again. The manner in which Dawood’s nephew has managed to flee shows that MVA stands for Maha Vasooli Aghadi that is only interested in using people like Sachin Vaze for vasooli. Therefore, questions must be asked of this government if this was a mere coincidence or a well-planned conspiracy”. Poonawala also highlighted how Dawood had similarly managed to flee to Pakistan.

Ex-R&AW officer NK Sood had revealed the nexus between several Congress and NCP leaders including Sharad Pawar with the dreaded terrorist Dawood Ibrahim. Sood had also highlighted their complicity in shielding the wanted terrorist from arrests and sabotaging the Indian intelligence’s efforts in nabbing the Mumbai 1993 bomb blast accused. Pawar had even publicly admitted to masking the jihadi nature of the 1993 blasts. In this background, questions are bound to arise if the current MVA government deliberately let Ibrahim’s nephew escape.
