Dalits beaten up for standing up to Muslim molesters in Azamgarh, UP

UP CM Yogi Adityanath has stepped in to ensure justice to Dalit Hindus who were beaten up by Muslim men when they stopped the latter from molesting Dalit girls & women.

The incident occurred in Sikandarpur Aima village, Maharajganj area, district Azamgarh. Muslim men would gather around a tube well and molest and harass Dalit girls passing by. After another girl was molested last Wednesday, she protested along with Dalits from a nearby basti (hamlet). Soon, a Muslim mob attacked the Dalit basti armed with lathis and sharp-edged weapons. 12 people were injured in the attack.

A police complaint was lodged by the victims against Parvez, Faizan, Noor Alam, Sadre Alam, Aarif, Aashif, Altamash, Suhail and 10 unnamed persons.

Reports indicate that despite lodging a complaint with the police, no action was taken against the accused. The issue aggravated due to the inaction and finally came to the notice of the CM.

When the issue was brought to the attention of CM Yogi, an irate CM asked for immediate and strict action to be taken in the case. He ordered that the culprits be booked under the NSA (National Security Act) and Gangster Acts. He even stated that action would be taken against the inspector and CO (Circle Officer) in case any religious or caste-related incidents took place. Superintendent of Police (SP) would be held responsible for the matter.

After CM Yogi’s intervention, Maharajganj station in-charge Arvind Pandey was suspended. Thus far Parvez, Faizan, Noor Alam, Sadre Alam, and eight others have been arrested in connection with this case while seven other accused are on the run. A reward of Rs 25,000 has been announced for information on the missing accused.
