Cow smugglers run over police officer in Mewat, Haryana – condition critical

Cow smugglers in Haryana’s Nuh (Mewat) district tried to crush police officials under their vehicle as they were trying to escape a police barricade, reports Hindi daily Navbharat Times. An Assistant Sub Inspector was badly injured while other policemen had a narrow escape. The smugglers also opened fired on the police.

Police got an alert from an informer that cow smugglers plan to take cows for slaughter to Rajasthan via Kati Ghati route. ASI Yashpal along with other policemen set up barricades near Shahpur Khera village and started checking vehicles. They tried to stop a mini-truck whose driver broke the barricade and ran his vehicle over the police posse, in which ASI Yashpal was seriously wounded.

Then the cow smugglers opened fire on the police. Police fired back and was able to nab one smuggler, Mujeeb resident of Paimakheda village, while another got away. The arrested man confessed that they were smuggling the cattle to Rajasthan for slaughtering.

8 cows were rescued and sent to a gaushala in Mewat. Police is on the look out for the absconding smuggler.
