Communal tension broke out in Pauri Garhwal district’s Satpuli town, on Wednesday, after a man from a minority community was allegedly caught sexually assaulting a calf.
Amidst protests in the town asking for arrest of the 23-year-old, an FIR was lodged in the Satpuli police station by Baleshwar who claimed to be an eye-witness to the incident.
“The man was booked under Section 377 [of the Indian Penal Code] for unnatural sexual offences. He has been arrested and will be presented in the Lansdowne court on Thursday,” Station Officer of Satpuli police station Rakender Kathait said.
Pauri Superintendent of Police Jagatram Joshi said, “We have deployed additional police force in the town to keep the situation remains under control in the town.”
This is the second incident of communal tension in the town in one month. On July 9 communal tension had gripped the town after a 16-year-old Muslim boy had allegedly posted offensive pictures of the Kedarnath shrine on Facebook. The accused boy was later sent to a juvenile home for 14 days as per a decision taken by the juvenile board.
In sharp contrast, the 16-year-old Hindu juvenile who allegedly posted an ‘offensive’ FB post against Islam that triggered rioting in multiple towns and villages of West Bengal and calls by Islamists for the juvenile’s public lynching, is rotting in jail for a month now in clear violation of all laws of juvenile justice.
This is also the second incident in recent months of a Muslim man sexually assaulting a calf. In March, Mohammad Iqbal was caught by Nathu Lal from his cow shed in Jaipur while the accused was allegedly having intercourse with a two-and-a-half-months-old calf.
“I called out to my other family members and even though Iqbal tried to escape from the spot, we caught him. We saw the calf was bleeding profusely as a result of the intercourse and the other cows were also restless and mooing,” the complainant, Nathu Lal, told HT.
Lal and other members of the family told police that Iqbal confessed to having sex with the calf. “He told us that he had intercourse with the calf one or two times earlier as well and thereafter we took him to the police,” said Lal.
